Should I change from O2 broadband to plus.net

O2 broadband is going up, so seems like a good time to switch! I was with plust.net previously and loved them as a company.

My tariff will be going up to £9.50, including a £5 discount, for a 8 Meg connection. This, according to O2, doesn't have any traffic management.

6.5 MBit/Sec download speed tested. Downloads at about 230KB/Sec though, not sure why.

plust.net are £6.49 for 10GB usage, £5 per extra usage, can't remember how much. Maybe 5MB? So a pretty good deal, but I need to see how my usage is over the coming months. They have traffic management, which supposedly my O2 account doesn't. Although I don't believe that judging by my download performance....

Chat transcripts with both O2 and plus.net are in my hotmail.

Usage

O2 don't record usage on my package, however the router does record usage since last restart, so I can log back in and look at that once I've had it running without restart for a while.

If you want watch iPlayer in high quality a one hour programme will use around 650MB of data.

Conclusion

I'll stick with O2 for now, now that I finally have SIPGATE working (see separate blog). Monitor my usage over the coming months and see if I'd save with plus.net.
